UA Music Ensembles Perform at Local Middle Schools

October 30, 2003

CrossTalk, the University of Arizona's electronic percussion ensemble, performs a free concert for middle school students at Townsend Middle School. The Monday, Nov. 3 concert is the first in a month-long series of four music events presented by UA School of Music ensembles.

CrossTalk is the only performance group of its kind in the world. The nine-member group does not play traditional percussion ensemble literature electronically. Instead, the ensemble utilizes DrumKATs, MalletKATs, TrapKATs, Zendrums, HandSonic and DTX electronic percussion systems to create and perform new works and offer unique musical opportunities and experiences to its members and their audience.

The new music series, which is funded by the Glassman Foundation, continues on Mondays with concerts on Nov. 10 at Magee Middle School, featuring vocal jazz ensembles Everyman Jack and Jill and Vocalease. A wind quintet featuring a graduate student ensemble performs at Magee Middle School on Nov.17. The final concert in the series, on Nov. 24, features a chamber orchestra performing Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf," at Doolen Middle School.
